Inspired by the storm, the surf, the elements and the earth...

Within Storm Island you will discover handcrafted cards, albums, bags, wall-hangings, jewellery, and gifts, as well as one off pieces of art work, and much more.

Storm Island’s story began with Sara, an artist and textile designer from the Channel Islands with a love of nature and a fascination with its powers. After gaining a masters degree in the subject, she could do nothing but create beautiful, unique, handcrafted ‘storm stuff’ to bring her thoughts, designs and ideas to life, and Storm Island’s book was opened...

Inspired by the ocean, and made from a wide range of materials - from discarded shells to beautiful fabrics and handmade papers. Unique beach finds and little pieces of nature are often included - hand collected, reclaimed and recycled - crafted by the storm, created by the ocean’s movement, and inspired by the colours and shapes of marine life, Storm Island aims to bring you your own little piece of nature. Here is a little bit about Sara and her work...

“My most recent textile collection is based on sustainability, and consists of printed textile designs on unconventional fabrics composed of Bamboo, Soybean, SeaCell and Pineapple fibres. The fabrics are micro-encapsulated with Aloe Vera and Eucalyptus, and are marketed towards travelers, with the aim of bringing various health and well-being benefits to the wearer, whilst away from the comforts of home.

I enjoy exploring new ideas and am interested in concepts which involve investigating different cultures - people and places and the secrets and stories they hold. My work explores the idea of memory and mysteries lost to the past, as well as the idea of following a path, and the different people, places, stories and faces we come across along the way. My most recent collection has a 'Journey of Discovery' theme, with different cultural elements, floral and tribal patterns, and a snapshot of this portfolio can be seen by clicking here...

My passions are travel, nature and the ocean, and I combine these interests by designing surf wear and accessories, and bring them to those who share my passions through Storm Island.”
